Venue Technician

Edge of Elsewhere is a new, 12,000 square-foot immersive world of art, puzzles, and mysteries, coming to the Boston area in Fall 2026. Inside, players collaborate to solve puzzles and complete storylines as they explore a wide variety of themed interactions.

The Role

The Venue Technician will ensure an excellent guest experience across Edge of Elsewhere by maintaining safety, functionality, and reliability of the venue’s technical systems. This is a hands-on role focused on maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, improvement, and upkeep of our immersive environments.

The right person for this position is comfortable working with physical materials, tools, electronics, technical systems, and guest-facing spaces. They care about getting the details right, solving problems quickly and calmly, and maintaining a high standard.

Responsibilities

The Venue Technician will troubleshoot electro-mechanical systems, scenic elements, wiring, lighting, audio, interactive props, facility items, and other systems throughout the venue. This role will maintain the functionality of Edge of Elsewhere’s facility and attraction elements using skills and techniques that may include:

  • Expert craftsmanship across a variety of materials, including wood, metal, plastics, laminates, scenic materials, and other fabrication media.
  • Painting, surfacing, refinishing, and touch-up work, including for scenic elements.
  • Wiring of electro-mechanical devices, sensors, lighting, controls, and related systems.
  • Troubleshooting PCs, networks, microcontrollers, embedded electronics, and other technical equipment.
  • Studying and interpreting shop drawings, sketches, wiring diagrams, technical notes, and other design documents.
  • Working knowledge of general facility maintenance such as plumbing, HVAC, wiring, basic repairs, and building upkeep.
  • Maintaining documentation, procedures, and attraction maintenance logs to support the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the venue.
  • Keeping individual workspaces, shop areas, storage areas, and the building as a whole clean, organized, and efficient.
  • Performing preventative maintenance, inspections, and recurring upkeep for attractions and facility systems as needed.
  • Researching and procuring products or solutions for venue maintenance needs.
  • Upholding Edge of Elsewhere's visual, scenic, and experience standards across the venue, including product, guest experience, graphic design, display standards, environmental cleanliness, and organization.
  • Helping ensure guest safety within the venue by continuously monitoring and addressing foreseeable risks to guest welfare.

Must-Have Skills & Attributes

  • Highly organized, with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on business needs, including days, nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency responsiveness to pressing technical issues.
  • Ability to work ten-hour-plus shifts, stand, sit, squat, kneel, climb, or walk for extended periods of time, walk up and down stairs and ladders, and read or interpret technical manuals and instructions.
  • Ability to grasp, reach overhead, push, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask, work calmly and effectively under tight deadlines, manage multiple projects, and operate in a fast-paced, guest-facing environment.
  • Operational knowledge of technical equipment, which may include carpentry, rigging, lighting, sound, sensors, controls, electronics, and scenic systems.
  • Experience with the safe operation of power tools, hand tools, ladders, lifts, and electrical equipment.
  • Comfort with technology and willingness to learn new systems, including Google Workspace tools such as Docs, Sheets, and Slides.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to commute to Needham, MA as required for coordination.

Occasional travel may be required to support external vendors, fabrication, installation, training, or future venue work.

Other Desirable, But Not Necessary, Skills & Experience

  • 1+ year of experience working in a related technical, maintenance, fabrication, facilities, theater, scenic, museum, entertainment, or shop capacity.
  • Bachelor’s degree or training in production, design, theater technology, engineering, fabrication, technical theater, architecture, industrial design, or a related field.
  • Experience with immersive/themed entertainment, escape rooms, theater, museums, exhibits, scenic fabrication, interactive installations, or live event production.
  • Familiarity with microcontrollers, sensors, low-voltage wiring, lighting control, audio systems, networking, or show control systems.
  • Experience reading drawings, CAD files, wiring diagrams, fabrication plans, or technical documentation.

We do not expect every candidate to have deep experience in all of the above. We are looking for someone with the curiosity, care, and capability to learn quickly in the areas that are new.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $55,000 - $95,000 a year commensurate with experience
